Title: Safeboat 31 Hull Repair
Addenda: 0
Release Date: 11/10/2025
Due Date: 12/1/2025
The Town of Hingham Harbor Master is accepting sealed bids to fix aluminum hull corrosion on its 31 foot Safe boat. The corrosion is below the waterline forward of the pilot house in the bilge of the forward compartment below a diesel engine. The corrosion was cause by trapped water and sediment. A surveyor for the Town of Hingham evaluated the type and extent of the corrosion identifying two sections of hull approximately 6 feet x 6 inches of 5/16 bottom plate that require cropping/replacement.
Anticipated project start date, January, 2026
Anticipated sea trials, April, 2026
Mechanic is responsible for pick up and drop off of the vessel. Please be sure to factor in the bid amount.
This spring the hull was soda blasted removing years of bottom paint. After its removal several pinholes were discovered in the hull below the waterline. Closer inspection with surveyor we determined the pin holes were caused by trapped stagnant water corroding the aluminum. We attempted to weld aluminum plates as a patch, but were unable because the attempted weld burnt through the 5/16 bottom plate which was compromised from the corrosion.
