This project will replace existing switchgear, unit substations, and motor control centers at SAWS’ Central Cooling Plant located at 900 E. Commerce. It is expected that this work will take place in strategic phases to minimize impact on operations because the plant must remain operational during construction. Work will require significant field verification and close coordination with SAWS chilled water operations and CPS Energy.

San Antonio Water System Central Cooling Plant

This project will replace existing switchgear, unit substations, and motor control centers at SAWS’ Central

Cooling Plant located at 900 E. Commerce. It is expected that this work will take place in strategic phases

to minimize impact on operations because the plant must remain operational during construction. Work

will require significant field verification and close coordination with SAWS chilled water operations and

CPS Energy.

When Will Work Occur?

It is expected that this project will advertise in July or August 2026 with work starting in October (dates

subject to change). Estimated duration and OPCC are TBD at this time, as the project’s design is still

underway.

What to Expect

✓ Replacement of existing electrical

equipment as specified by the

project’s design.

✓ The solicitation via RFCSP will seek

respondents with experience

working in and around medium

voltage electrical equipment.

Electrical experience pertaining to

CHW plants is preferred.

✓ Careful and complex coordination

with SAWS CHW staff to ensure

the system remains operational

and at adequate capacities during

construction.
