Request for Proposals – Municipal Court Judge


The City of Abilene is seeking proposals from qualified individuals to serve as Municipal Court Judge.  This position is an independent contractor role responsible for presiding over municipal court, ensuring the fair and impartial administration of justice, and managing court proceedings in accordance with applicable laws and ordinances.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct court proceedings
  • Advise defendants of their rights
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws
  • Manage the court docket and case flow
  • Approve warrants, summons, and related court documents
  • Oversee court operations in coordination with staff
Qualifications
  • Licensed to practice law in Kansas and in good standing
  • Experience in municipal law or courtroom proceedings preferred
Term & Compensation
  • Two-year term, with potential for renewal
  • Compensation negotiable based on experience
