Project Description: Notice of Intent
Sole Source Procurement
This is not a solicitation for bids or proposals. This is a notice of intent to purchase a product without seeking competition.
Any responses received as a result of this Notice of Intent shall be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Responses will not be considered as proposals, bids, or quotes. The proposed contract action is for products or services for which the College intends to negotiate and award with only one source, as permitted under the authority of the Utah Procurement Code (U.S.C. § 63G-6a-802, as amended).
Product and/or service to be purchased: 3 X ICU Freedom Booms 200 Series
Proposed Sole Source Supplier: Johnson's Medical
Sole Source Justification:
Equivalent booms were purchased from Johnson’s Medical for the Surgical Technology remodel in 2023. It is beneficial to maintain the same type of equipment for consistency to ensure alignment with the existing tables and booms used throughout the Health Sciences programs at SLCC’s Jordan Campus. There have been extensive discussions regarding the design and materials for the Respiratory Therapy lab space, and it would be ideal for the equipment in this area to match that of the Surgical Technology space. In addition, we have a service contract with Johnson’s Medical. It would be most cost effective to include these under the same contract. Johnson’s Medical currently services our surgical lights and tables, as well as many other pieces of equipment within the health sciences areas of SLCC’s Jordan Campus. Being able to keep consistent with equipment, sinks, tables, lights, etc is essential to being able to maintain the equipment long term, both in service and costs. This is also necessary to ensure our students are using the same equipment at the school that they will see on clinical site and after graduation.
These Booms are the specific model that is currently used in hospital ICU and hospital sites within the SLCC service area. Johnson’s Medical is the only supplier for the exact build of these tools in the State. This is industry standard and what students will be using in ICU and hospital suites during clinical rotations and after graduation. It is important for training to be exposed to the industry standard so students are prepared to work in this environment upon graduation. This was determined by discussion with industry partners and our Education & Career Pathway Advisory Committee (ECPAC). Our partners on ECPAC include representatives from Intermountain Health, University of Utah, our 2 largest employers for Respiratory Technology Students. Also includes Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. Other products were reviewed for NICU, Peds, and adult ICU care and these are the industry standard and the only supplier of this particular model within the State. The functionality of these Booms differ amongst other companies as well.
