Description

This Class Justification and Approval (CJ&A) authorizes and approves the use of brand name commercial equipment from Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories’ (SEL) specified Product Line for electrical distribution control equipment consists of a human-machine interface (HMI) that communicates to the programmable digital controllers at the installation’s electrical components (substation, switchgear, etc.). It is referred to herein as the Electrical UCS. Network-capable programmable digital controllers include, but are not limited to, real-time automation controllers (RTACs), substation/switch gear controllers, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), remote terminal units (RTUs), utility meters, and any associated network components required for full and complete networked operations. It does not include the physical system components (such as switchgears, automatic transfer switches, wiring, and similar). SEL’s specified Product Line distribution control equipment will be configured and programmed using Government-licensed software from SEL’s specified Product Line. This requirement does not restrict who can install, commission, test, maintain, or operate the controllers, as there are several known sources who can provide such services.

See attached Class J&A for additional details.
