Harlan County Lake is the second largest reservoir in Nebraska. Recreational development is extensive. Six parks managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, are located around the reservoir. Park areas at Harlan County Lake offer a wide variety of recreation facilities including boat launching ramps, campgrounds, full service marinas, picnic areas, and sand swimming beaches. Many routine maintenance items are contracted to the private sector, including mowing, refuse collection, and facility cleanup.
