Summary
Right now, each 10’x10’ door is manually opened. Each year, these sectional doors (along with all the automated doors on campus) are checked to ensure they are balanced, lubricated, and running safely. Despite this effort, it is still possible for a manual door to come down on its own for a variety of reasons. During a recent discussion with one of the FEIB investigators, it was relayed that having one (or both) overhead sectional doors automated would be a useful tool for him/them to use. Typically, there is just one individual working on the vehicle accessory change-outs so having the ability to open/close the door(s) from one location will help save time and can potentially reduce the potential of the door coming down unexpectedly. (The vendor will need to verify if there is adequate power available to support operation of two independent-automated garage door openers. ) This request is to add automatic garage door openers to both doors (if the existing power configuration can support it). In the event only one door can be supported using the existing power configuration, then only one automated door opener is requested. At this time, any door seals or bent door panels that should be replaced. Once installation is completed, check torsion bar/spring for proper settings and verify the door is properly balanced and that all rollers are operating smoothly.

Please coordinate a site visit with Michael Sands: Mon, Tues, and Thurs between 8a-4:30p March 3 and 12 are not available.

FEIB Storage – Automate (and repair) Existing Sectional Doors Winter 2026
Purpose: At this time, DSFM has three (3) main, occupied buildings. There are currently some training
buildings that will add that total and there are currently other out buildings that are not occupied but are used for
storage/work areas. These storage buildings currently contain overhead sectional doors for helping store
vehicles and other palleted goods from external weather elements. These buildings are not insulated, and, with
exception of a very small IT closet, they are not climate controlled.
One of the buildings is used for FEIB storage. Each 10’x10’ door is manually opened but do have a tendency to
come down on its. It was relayed that having one (or both) overhead sectional doors automated would be a
useful tool. Having the ability to open/close the door(s) from one location will help save time and can
potentially reduce the potential of the door coming down unexpectedly. The storage building has power that
powers some very low-draw CCTV equipment/fiber modules, a window A/C unit, an exterior LED wall pack,
interior LED light bulbs, and a few electrical receptacles. The vendor will need to verify if there is adequate
power available to support operation of two independent-automated garage door openers.
This request is to add automatic garage door openers to both doors (if the existing power configuration can
support it). In the event only one door can be supported using the existing power configuration, then only one
automated door opener is requested. At this time, any door seals or bent door panels that should be replaced.
Once installation is completed, check torsion bar/spring for proper settings and verify the door is properly
balanced and that all rollers are operating smoothly.
Requesting:
Install two (2) automated garage door openers on two separate 10ft x 10ft sectional doors
If the vendor verifies the existing electrical infrastructure can support the extra power load of two
automatic garage doors, then proceed as requested. In the event the current electrical configuration
cannot support two additional loads for two garage door openers, then just one is requested. If this is the
case, then the desire is to have the southern-most door be automated. Please note: it is unlikely that both
doors will be in operation simultaneously. While there may be a situation when both are in operation, it
should not be a common occurrence.
Opener brand preference: LiftMaster
Provide necessary power for the new garage door openers. This may include, but is not limited to,
additional circuit breakers, wire, conduit/flex, and electrical receptacles.
Inspect (and replace, if necessary) garage door stop.
Check door for operation; balance door and make necessary calibration changes as necessary.
Replace side door seal and inspect (replace, if necessary) the under-door seals on both doors.
Repair (or replace, if necessary) door panels that are bent.
If new panels are necessary, paint to match. Should there be an extreme color difference due to natural
weatherization of existing panels, paint both doors to match side door (Sherwin Williams-brand, Gun
Metal Gray, SW2118).
Any permitting – if applicable – to be included with this quote.
Work is performed during normal operating hours, Monday-Friday 8a to 4:30p (excluding holidays)
Electric panel in the storage building. Notice: room for a spare
breaker. All interior lighting is LED wall pack used to be an HID but
has since been retrofitted to LED and does not require as much power.
There is a small window A/C unit used to cool a switch room
associated with the campus WIFI. Other constant outlet loads are low-
draw for fiber and PoE switches for WIFI and CCTV.
