APEX Accelerators are an official government contracting resource for small businesses. Find your local APEX Accelerator (opens in new window) for free government expertise related to contract opportunities.
APEX Accelerators are funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the Department of Defense.
The APEX Accelerators program was formerly known as the Procurement Technical Assistance Program (opens in new window) (PTAP).
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is conducting market research to identify sources that possess the capabilities and experience necessary to provide a fast-cycle dilution refrigeration system.
With ever-increasing numbers of quantum bits (‘qubits’) on a superconducting quantum computer chip, defects in the design and materials will be amplified and result in unusable qubit lifetime during scale-up. The optimization of design and materials as well as exploration of potential new materials for the system rely on sequential experiments, where parameters of a previous step are necessary for the optimization of the next. Such iterations are typically hindered by the long cycling time of a dilution refrigerator. A fast-cycling dilution refrigerator is essential equipment for circuit design and material optimization for presevering performance such as qubit lifetime during scaling.
