ADDENDUM NO. 1

This document is an Amendment of the Plans and Specifications for "PROJECT" and shall be a part of and
included in the Contract. When the Addendum conflicts with the original Specifications and/or Drawings,
this Addendum shall govern.
Questions Received: The following are answers addressing questions received from Bidders to date:
1. What about substitutions? I have a feeling that none of our suppliers will have the Imperial
Honeylocust.
a. Substitutions will be entertained - provide substitutions for Owner/City review prior to
acceptance.
2. The other questions are about the items on page L2.1. Is all of that applicable to this project? In
particular:
A2: Plant Photographs...required?
Photographs are method used to protect the Owner from defective or poor plant material that doesn't meet
the specs. or the intent of the planting details provided in the Bid Documents. This allows the contractor to have
plant materials selected without the Owner or Architect/Engineer having to visit the grower's nursery.
B3: Proprietary Root-Ball-Stabilization Device What brand and model?
This implies that if the landscape contractor wishes to use a stabilization device other than that shown on
the planting details, it must be submitted to the Owner for review and accepted for use. This helps to eliminate
systems which may be deemed destructive, etc. to the plant materials.
B4: Slow release tree water device....Gator Bags or similar?
If tree-watering devices (such as Gator Bags) are used by the contractor, the Owner requests information about
the system. Occasionally, Owners have watering devices they do not prefer to have used.
1.4 A.1: Will the architect go to the growers and tag the individual trees? We can't order the trees and
have them rejected once they are here.
The Architect/Engineer prefers not to go to the grower to tag individual trees but may, per the
specifications. In some cases, the grower is regional, and this is feasible. In the case where a plant material
broker, et al. is used, photos of a representative sample of the specified trees for review by the
Architect/Engineer are helpful to review plant materials. The intent is for inferior plant materials to be rejected
before they arrive at the site.
3. The maintenance period is 12 months but the warranty period is 24 months....is that correct?
Correct. The maintenance period is intended to help the plant materials through initial
establishment. 24-month warranty is intended to protect the Owner from plant material that isn't maintained
and/or was planted poorly. Often, plant materials are able to survive the first year on stored energy reserves
without establishing a new root system. Proper planting practice and maintenance during establishment help
decrease the likelihood of plant replacement in the 24-month period. Additional info: Decline of Newly Planted

4. The bid date will be extended one week to Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the
City Hall Commission Chambers, 2nd Floor, 300 S. 5th St, Paducah, KY 42003.
