Adirondack High Peaks Summit Stewards Program
Description:

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is seeking a qualified Contractor will provide environmental education program(s) featuring persons in the role of summit steward. The Adirondack High Peaks Summit Stewards Program must include one “chief” and five “regular” summit stewards who shall be responsible for patrolling the summit areas of Mount Marcy, the MacIntyres, Skylight, Haystack, Cascade, Colden, and other high peaks.

Stewards will be responsible for encouraging visitors to avoid trampling vegetation and utilize designated trails whenever possible, explaining the significance of the natural resource, educating the public as to Leave No Trace™ backcountry ethics, explaining the rules and regulations, and monitoring marked Department trails and designated summits. Stewards must be present 4 days a week on average, full-time or full-time equivalent, and at anticipated high use times (weekends and holidays) between mid-May and mid-October of each year.

Proposers shall adhere to the NYS DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION GUIDELINES REGARDING PERMISSIBLE CONTACTS DURING A PROCUREMENT AND THE PROHIBITION OF INAPPROPRIATE LOBBYING INFLUENCE.
