Overview

Summary

The County of Mohave, on behalf of the Flood Control District , is seeking bids from qualified respondents for a construction project titled: Crestwood Detention Basin Construction . All bids are due before 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 5, 2026 .

This project consists of construction of 1 detention basin on Flood Control District land west of the City of Kingman near Hafley Drive. The work site is located in a portion of Section 2 of Township 21 North, Range 17 West. The basin is designed to be formed by excavation and embankment with rock lining on the downstream face, a rock primary outlet spillway and an outlet pipe placed below the spillway crest.

The construction cost range of this Project is expected to be between One Million Dollars ($1,000,000 and Two Million Dollars ($2,000,000).

Background

In February 2023, the Mohave County Board of Supervisors approved 9 locations in the Hualapai Valley Basin for possible groundwater recharge. The Flood Control District applied to WIFA’s Water Conservation Grant Funds (WCGF) program for funding to design and construct detention basins at these locations. The District was awarded American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding which has been used to acquire land and design detention basins at some of these locations.

The Riata Detention Basin and Crestwood Detention Basin were designed simultaneously and share a Design Report. These basins are located on Arizona State Land and the District has nearly completed the acquisition of these locations.

The Crestwood Detention Basin will provide flood control benefits to residents and structures immediately downstream. Impounded storm runoff may also contribute to the aquifer by infiltration into the ground for a short period of time after a storm.

Funds for the basin construction come from grants, supplemented by budgeted money from the Mohave County Flood Control District.
