2025 Speed Cushion Installation Project - RFP

Through this Request for Proposals (RFP), the City seeks qualified contractors to furnish all labor, materials, and equipment necessary to install speed cushions at multiple locations throughout Pontiac. The project will be guided by the City’s engineering standards and best practices for traffic calming devices, with a strong emphasis on quality workmanship, community responsiveness, and adherence to project timelines.

The City of Pontiac (Michigan) has undertaken a project to install speed cushions across various residential neighborhoods. This initiative aims to improve road safety by reducing vehicle speeds and minimizing the risk of accidents, particularly in areas with high pedestrian traffic. The objective of installing speed cushions is to:

• Enhance the safety of residential neighborhoods
• Reduce vehicle speeds in key areas
• Minimize the risk of traffic accidents, especially around schools and parks

The speed cushion installation project in Pontiac is a proactive step towards enhancing road safety and reducing traffic-related risks in the community. In 2023, the City of Pontiac launched the Speed Cushion Project to help make neighborhood streets safer and more comfortable for everyone. Working closely with residents and using data from safety reviews, the City identified key locations where speed cushions could make a real difference. Speed cushions are a proven way to slow down traffic without slowing down emergency vehicles, thanks to their thoughtful design that allows wider vehicles to pass more easily while encouraging everyday drivers to reduce their speed.

This RFP continues the work that began in 2023, building on those efforts to expand speed cushion installations across more neighborhoods.
