Closing Date 08/24/2026Project Budget$13,500,000.00Project DescriptionThe University’s Department of Comparative Medicine (DCM) and School of Medicine (SOM) are renovating and expanding BSL3 suites at the Burnett-Womack building to allow UNC-Chapel Hill to bring together investigators working on emerging and re-emerging infections, to enable access to specialized equipment for supporting high containment research, and to create institution-wide core space for the recruitment of new investigators in the infectious disease research community by increasing usable laboratory space in BSL3 facilities, and installing new equipment that will serve investigators within the many UNC-Chapel Hill centers, institutes, and departments.
This project will reconfigure approximately 5,000-sf of the 13,900 square foot floor plate, and renovate approximately 5,000-sf of the remainder of the ninth floor of Burnett-Womack to create an approximately 10,000-sf BSL3 Containment suite.
Improvements to the base building environmental systems are expected, including but not limited to: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, emergency power, and rooftop penthouse mechanical equipment installation.
UNC-Chapel Hill is seeking statements of qualifications from Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) firms for this effort.
