One-Two Sentences
The Lineberger Cancer Research facility serves as the headquarters for the University of North Carolina Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC), the only public comprehensive cancer center in North Carolina. As the central hub for interdisciplinary cancer research at UNC-Chapel Hill, the LCCC unites research and clinical faculty from across campus and beyond. Originally constructed in 1981 with an addition in 1994, the Lineberger Cancer Research facility is currently rated in fair to poor condition, with building systems nearing the end of their expected service life. UNC seeks to provide a facility for LCCC to enable it to continue its integrative and successful growth trajectory, building on a 50-year legacy of excellence and positioning LCCC to become the leading cancer research program in the United States This facility will support the LCCC's growing research mission and instructional needs with flexible research laboratories and instructional spaces designed to foster collaboration and innovation for current investigators and students, while enhancing UNC's ability to recruit top-tier researchers and clinicians. Scope of Advance Planning Phase -Develop Facility Options: -Renovate and expand the existing facility with a 60,000 sq. ft. vertical addition (three stories). -Replace and expand the facility on the current site. -Construct a new facility at an alternate location on the School of Medicine campus. Key Deliverables: -Provide a Space Programming Report updating previous planning studies and identifying current and future LCCC space needs. -Identification of enabling projects, including swing space strategies to vacate the current facility as required for each proposed option. -Development of project cost estimates for each option. The primary objective of the phase is to develop a preferred scenario supported by robust planning and cost data. The project has received Advance Planning spending authority. The intent is to engage the selected design team for full design services upon successful completion of the Advance Planning Phase and receipt of additional funding authority, at the university's option. UNC is seeking qualifications for the lead design firm and subconsultants for the disciplines as shown below. Each submission should include qualifications for no more than a single bullet point on this list. Submissions should indicate if you are submitting as the lead design firm. UNC will select the Lead Design firm first. Once the selection is approved by the Board of Trustees, UNC will provide the submissions for other disciplines to the Lead Design firm in order to assemble a design team. UNC intends to review these submissions with the Lead Design firm, but will not contract separately for design services; rather, a single, comprehensive design contract will be executed with the lead design firm to include all disciplines required to deliver the project. -Architecture and Lab Planning (if a partnership between two or more firms, please indicate which firm will serve as Architect of Record) -Structural Engineering -Landscape Architecture -Civil and Utility Distribution Engineering -Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection Engineering -Cost Estimation
