The King County Library System (KCLS) invites proposals from qualified consulting firms to lead a comprehensive system-wide planning and development process. The objective is to develop a Master Maintenance and Asset Management Plan that integrates Future Growth & Development considerations for the next 25 years. This Plan must be aligned with KCLS's three recent assessments consisting of: Facilities Condition Assessment, Library Accessibility Audit and the Climate Action Plan. Consultants should demonstrate a strong understanding of asset management principles, long-term planning, and the unique needs of public library systems.
The guide will be an affirmation and reflection of KCLS' commitment to its mission and that supports the following objectives, strategies and initiatives.
KCLS is one of the busiest library systems in the country, serving 1.2 million residents through 49 community libraries, an institutional library (King County Children and Family Justice Center) and 17 mobile service vehicles. The KCLS service area encompasses 2,100 square miles of rural, suburban and urban King County surrounding, but not including the City of Seattle, serving 36 municipalities and 18 school districts. KCLS employs over 900 full-time and part-time staff, and circulates over 21 million print, media and electronic items each year.
Established in 1942, per RCW 27.12.040 KCLS is a special purpose taxing district that is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees and operates under the constitution and laws of the State of Washington.
