Title: AEC Campus Arc Flash Study
Addenda: 0
Release Date: 8/5/2025
Due Date: 9/9/2025
The Alliant Energy Center (AEC) is a County-owned, multi-building event and exhibition complex located at 1919 Alliant Energy Center Way in Madison, Wisconsin. The 164-acre campus features various large-scale facilities including the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Exhibition Hall, New Holland Pavilions, and multiple administrative and utility support buildings.
Originally constructed in the 1960s, the AEC has grown significantly over time to support a wide range of events. The campus includes a complex and evolving electrical infrastructure that supports both public events and essential life safety systems across several buildings, many of which have been upgraded or reconfigured in recent decades.
The County is undertaking a comprehensive arc flash hazard study of the entire AEC campus in order to assess and address a range of objectives including but not limited to, the following:
Improve personnel safety for maintenance and operations staff.
Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E and OSHA electrical safety standards.
Address outdated or incomplete one-line documentation.
Identify areas of non-compliant equipment and opportunities for improved coordination.
Prepare for future infrastructure upgrades and emergency response planning.
The size, age, and complexity of the AEC’s electrical system further reinforce the need for comprehensive assessment. This project will ensure the long-term safety, maintainability, and reliability of this campus.
