Purpose:The Department of Adult Corrections (DAC) is seeking the services of a consulting forester to develop 20-year comprehensive stewardship plans that incorporate ecological forestry management practices for total of 1374 acres of forest land located at 10 DAC properties statewide. Locations and Addresses listed on Attachment K: Polygons of forest management boundaries for each property (shapefiles for ArcGIS or pdf’s for Avenza) will be available upon request. Background:DAC owns and manages properties across the state of North Carolina for housing offender populations. Many of these properties include substantial natural and working lands. A sustainable land use program was recently established at the DAC with the goal of incorporating sustainable and ecological practices into managing these lands.Healthy sustainably productive forests contribute to the health, safety and viability of DAC facilities. Prescribed burns and invasive plant control minimize the impact of uncontrolled/unmanageable fires on DAC structures and nearby communities. Reforestation allows DAC to have a long-term income opportunity as well as promote wildlife diversity. DAC is seeking the services of a consulting forester to develop 20-year comprehensive stewardship plans that incorporate ecological forestry practices for total of 1374 acres of forest land located at 10 DAC properties statewide.
