Release Date: 3/18/2025
Due Date: 4/9/2025
The City of Palo Alto is seeking proposals from qualified firms to provide transportation planning, design, and engineering services in support of the South Palo Alto Bikeways Demonstration Project. The preferred consultant team will demonstrate the skills necessary to complete the scope of work within a reasonable cost and schedule. Desired skills include project management, environmental impact review, bicycle and pedestrian planning, engagement with community members and stakeholders, and data analysis.
The scope of work includes National Environmental Policy Act documentation, the development of a striping concept plan for the corridor, and presentation to a City commission.
Additional tasks are contingent on the obligation of the remainder of the Safe Streets for All Planning and Demonstration Grant funding this project and the discretion of the City. These optional tasks include:
The South Palo Alto Bikeways Demonstration Project is funded by a Safe Streets and Roads for All Planning and Demonstration Grant. The project will test new lane configurations with temporary road striping and quick-build treatments on parts of East Meadow Drive and Fabian Way. These corridors serve as key walk-and-roll routes for students traveling to multiple schools and connect to recreational areas across Highway 101. As part of the grant, information learned throughout the demonstration project will be incorporated into an update of the Palo Alto Safety Action Plan.
At the time of writing, the initial phase of grant funding for this project is secure. The later phases are uncertain due to President Trump’s executive orders to freeze Federal funding programs. Therefore, this project will be implemented by task order, pending availability of grant funds.
