Protective Service Officers



Employment Opportunity





The United States Marshals Service is recruiting Protective Service Officer (PSO) to assist the USMS. PSO’s are an augmentee workforce providing the following protective services:




  • Safety and security of USMS protected persons and property while standing post, patrolling assigned duty locations, monitoring surveillance equipment, radio communications, access points to secure locations, and evacuate protected persons in an emergency situation.

  • Provide security for specific physical locations such as residences or business locations.

  • Securing of sites occupied by or visited by protected persons (including entry control, roving patrol, fixed posts, and emergency response).





Protective Service Officers will be scheduled on an “on call/as needed” basis to work as on-call guards.





Eligible candidates will have experiences as actively employed, reserve, or local Law Enforcement Officers with arrest authority and a minimum of one year of experience; or Military Police Officers with a minimum of one year of experience. Acting as a current PSO may be credited toward meeting the mandatory experience; or





PSOs are separated or retired Law Enforcement Officers with arrest authority and a minimum of five years of experience that have not been separated or retired for more than five years prior to contracting with the USMS







General Requirements: All applicants must fulfill the following requirements:



Qualifications:



U.S. Citizenship



21 years of age or older



Hold high school diploma or General Equivalency Development (GED) credential



Speak, read, and write the English language



Possess a valid U.S. driver’s license



No felony criminal convictions, disqualifying misdemeanor convictions, or derogatory civil records (Lautenberg Amendment). Disqualifying events will be determined by the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR).



Not currently subject to any court restraining order



Able to demonstrate firearms proficiency that meets USMS or current agency standards



Veterans must have an honorable or general discharge





Medical:



Must be approved fit-for-duty by a medical professional using USM-600 PSO Physical Requirement. This shall be submitted annually to the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR).





Vaccinations:



Hepatitis - Must provide medical certification/documentation of a current Hepatitis immunization. This shall be submitted annually to the COR.





Tuberculin (TB) skin test or a signed statement stating the PSO assumes the risks and releases, holds harmless, and indemnifies the USMS employees and agents. This shall be submitted annually to the COR.





The ability to meet any any federal mandate with respect to requiring vaccinations, as it could impose obligations with safety measures in the contractor’s workplace.
