Overview
The Board of Commissioners for Charles County seeks qualified contractors to provide construction services for installing a new 15,000‑gallon horizontal steel tank, a waste withdrawal station, and all associated piping, heat tracing, and insulation. Work also includes upgrades to the overflow systems for Potable Water Tanks labeled No. 1 and No. 2.
Additional elements include relocating an existing shed, performing required civil site improvements, and completing all related electrical, instrumentation, and system‑integration work. All activities will take place at the Chapel Point Woods Water Treatment Plant.
The Chapel Point Woods Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Treatment Facility, located at 9040 Spicewood Run in Bel Alton, Maryland, treats groundwater from an on‑site well to produce approximately 20,000 to 35,000 gallons of potable water per day. The facility uses two 25,000‑gallon storage tanks to hold finished drinking water, and these tanks discharge excess water to the ground through existing overflow piping.
The RO process also generates wastewater, which is collected in a dedicated 15,000‑gallon horizontal waste storage tank. The County contracts with a licensed waste hauling service that enters the site daily to remove the accumulated RO waste. Haulers typically use trucks with a capacity of 5,000 to 6,000 gallons, taking either full or partial loads depending on daily production.
The purpose of this project is to: 1. Supplement the existing 15,000-gallon waste storage tank with a new 15,000-gallon tank and extend the waste removal line outside the fence line and 2. Modify the overflow on the existing potable water storage tanks to discharge to grade with the required air gap and check valve.
