HVAC Compressor & Leak Search

The City of North Augusta is requesting quotes from qualified vendors to provide mechanical repair services, specifically the replacement of an air conditioning compressor and leak investigation/repair for Air Handler Unit #7 at the North Augusta Community Center (495 Brookside Avenue, North Augusta, SC 29841).

Circuit A – Compressor Replacement & System Commissioning

• Demolition & Removal: Safely recover remaining refrigerant from Circuit A in accordance with EPA guidelines. Disconnect and remove the failed compressor and existing liquid line filter drier.

• Component Installation: Supply and install (1) new OEM-compatible replacement compressor and (1) new liquid line filter drier on Circuit A.

• Charging & Startup: Perform standing nitrogen pressure test to verify system tightness. Charge Circuit A with factory-recommended refrigerant by weight. Start up Circuit A, measure superheat and subcooling, and verify proper operational pressures and electrical draw.

Circuit B – Leak Investigation, Repair & System Commissioning

• Leak Search: Pressurize Circuit B with dry nitrogen and perform a thorough electronic and bubble leak search across coils, brass connections, and braze joints.

• Leak Repair: Repair any minor surface or joint leaks discovered on Circuit B during the inspection.

  • (Note: If a major leak or component failure (such as a compromised coil circuit or primary component damage) is identified, a separate formal repair quote will be provided for approval prior to proceeding).

• Evacuation & Charging: Pull a deep vacuum to confirm circuit integrity. Charge Circuit B with proper refrigerant to manufacturer specifications.

• Startup & Verification: Start up Circuit B and verify full operational performance, monitoring operating pressures, subcooling/superheat, and temperature split across the coil.

Clarifications & Exclusions

1. Major Repairs: Major component repairs or coil replacements required on Circuit B fall outside this basic scope and will be quoted separately before work is performed.

2. Electrical Supply: Proposal assumes existing line voltage power wiring, disconnects, and contactors are in sound operational condition unless noted during startup.

3. Refrigerant: Includes factory specification refrigerant charge for standard line lengths.

Vendor Qualifications & Requirements:

• Bidding vendors must hold a valid South Carolina Mechanical/HVAC Contractor License.

• Bidding vendors must possess or obtain a valid City of North Augusta Business License once the contract is awarded.

• Vendors must carry active Workers' Compensation insurance.
