Background

The existing Public Safety Training Facility, constructed in the 1980s, is located on the western bank of Lake Maggiore within an existing Public Works compound. It currently serves the St. Petersburg Police Department for K-9 kenneling and training, as well as SWAT training. The facility has exceeded its useful service life and needs replacement.

This project underwent a programming study and was originally slated to be rebuilt within the existing compound. However, due to a broader interest in expanding other facilities within the compound, an alternative site was identified. As a result, the project location was reconsidered and is now proposed for development at a nearby vacant site.

The project will be located across the addresses 2311 7th Avenue South through 2399 8th Avenue South in St. Petersburg. It spans multiple parcels identified as vacant land, totaling approximately 2.64 acres. A total of thirty-five (35) parking spaces are required, and twenty-four (24) are currently provided. The site will require re-platting, vacation of an alley, and brownfield remediation.

The project will require LEED Certification with objective of Gold.
