Invitation to Bid
Annual Contract Line Painting (2025)
MATERIALS
a) Paint and bead shall be supplied by the Contractor;
b) Paint shall be a product approved for Alberta Infrastructure in the current year;
c) Bead shall be a product approved for Alberta Infrastructure in the current year;
d) All costs of shipping, handling, disposal of containers and storage shall be incidental to the contract.
2. EQUIPMENT
a) The Contractor shall provide all equipment necessary for completion of the Work including but not limited to the painting truck, a pilot truck, a crash attenuator vehicle and all ancillary equipment such as forklifts, hoists, pumps and transport vehicles required to load, unload and transport the paint and glass beads
b) Painting Truck The painting truck shall be self-propelled and equipped to meet or exceed the following requirements: (a) Two paint tanks each having a minimum capacity of 270 litres feeding three lines for a simultaneous two-colour application (two yellow directional dividing lines and one white.
3. WORK INCLUDED
a) The Contractor will maintain records of daily production, accurate measurements of linear meters of line painted and quantities of paint and glass beads converted to application rates
b) The pavement areas to be painted are detailed on the list above in 1.0 General, Location of Work
c) No paint shall be applied on wet or dirty pavement;
d) Wrongly applied markings must be removed at the contractor's expense by a method approved by the owner.
e) Hours of work - all painting shall be done in daylight between 1/2 hour after sunrise and 1/2 hour before sunset;
f) Operation of the painting machine against the flow of traffic shall not be permitted;
g) The Contractor shall be solely responsible for any claims arising from paint splashed on private vehicles;
h) The owner shall be responsible for all premarking required to properly apply markings;
i) The owner shall be responsible for sweeping all pavement areas requiring sweeping before applying paint;
j) The pilot truck shall be operated in accordance with Alberta Infrastructure practices;
k) The Contractor shall protect the public from possible damage to vehicles in the form of wet paint being splashed on their vehicles from freshly painted markings;
l) The Contractor shall be solely responsible for all claims arising from such occurrences and shall indemnify and save harmless the owner and its employees from and against all claims and demands.
m) The Contractor shall ensure that all markings under this contract are on clean, dry, paved surfaces Markings applied over wet, sandy or dirty surfaces will not be accepted and shall be repainted at the Contractor's expense.
n) Payment for centerline and edge line painting will be made at the unit price bid per km of road painted. This price will include all costs of inspections, transporting, supplying, applying paint and glass beads, signing, and supplying all labour;
o) Payment for individual markings and symbols will be made at the unit price bid for each item, if applicable.
p) The Contractor shall meet with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), or his representative, prior to the commencement of operations, to review and agree upon the proposed work plan and schedule. This will be done to ensure that critical portions of the work are completed on schedule and to reduce areas of conflict with traffic and other work projects.
q) The proposed work plan will include a traffic accommodation plan and an environmental site plan.
r) A pre-start up meeting is required to address safety items required from the successful company
