The Library of Congress (Library) Collections Digitization Division (CDD) requires a contract to purchase an oversize book cradle system to be used in the digitization of collection materials from the Library's collections. The Collections Digitization Division (CDD) has a rich history of performing digitization activities to digitize materials in the collection for use by a variety of stakeholders including Library staff, Library patrons, researchers, the public, federal agencies, members of Congress and countless others around the world. The Library supports multiple still image digitization programs converting books, manuscripts, maps, photographs, and film to digital form. The Library’s collection items come in all sizes, ranging from microscopic to very large. These efforts are a component of the Library’s digital strategy, producing millions of digital images per year.
In addition to the Library’s efforts to digitize its vast holdings, the Library leads the Federal Agencies Digital Guideline Initiative (FADGl) Still Image Working Group (FADGI Still Image). FADGI Still Image establishes the imaging standards and metrics for all Federal agencies and as such serves an essential role for digitization efforts for the entire cultural heritage community. FADGl Still Image also publishes documents providing guidance for the cultural heritage imaging community. These documents are used worldwide, establishing a common framework for digitization which conforms to various International Standards Organization (ISO) standards. Principal among these is the "Technical Guidelines for Digitizing Cultural Heritage Materials”.
