University of Calgary

The University of Calgary (UCalgary) intends to purchase the UniVert 1kN Universal uniaxial mechanical tester along with mid and high force packages, upgraded camera, associated software and accessories from CellScale Biomaterials Testing. The required uniaxial tensile testing machine, designed for characterizing biological tissue, provides mid-range load resolution and capacity, allowing accurate testing of soft tissue as well as a high-resolution camera with software for determining local deformation. It also includes add-ons that enable users to simulate the in vivo environment, such as a temperature-controlled fluid bath. The UniVert 1 kN system is unique in offering small, mid, and high force ranges all within a single machine. It provides a force range of 0.02 N to 1000 N allowing unmatched versatility, enabling the department to develop labs and test both soft tissue (e.g., arterial tissue) and hard tissue (e.g. Human/bovine bone) on the same system. To the University’s knowledge, no alternative system can reach a load capacity greater than 250 N while offering biological tissue specific attachments, and CellScale’s UniVert 1kN is the only system capable of meeting all technical and research requirements.
