Girls Committed Program

The Department supervises most youth who are involved in the juvenile justice system in the community. In some situations, juvenile courts may commit a youth to DJS and order that the young person receive out-of-home placement. Currently, girls and gender-expansive young people make up a very small proportion of the DJS youth population. After launching a workgroup to analyze these cases, consulting with expert technical assistance providers, and doing research into national best practices, the Department seeks to create a program that is staff-secure and therapeutic with a home-like environment for girls and gender-expansive young people. The program shall replace the current hardware secure commitment program that DJS operates for girls.
