This project provides for the improvement of Swan Creek between 64th Street East and Pioneer Way East. The project area is within both Pierce County and the City of Tacoma and spans the jurisdictional boundary between the two.
Work includes the installation of in-stream engineered log structures using various material delivery and installation methods including via helicopter, logging equipment, and traditional heavy equipment. The work will include procurement, delivery, and assembling of large to small diameter wood, furnishing and driving un-treated timber piles, installing ground anchors, chain lashing, racking, slash, and boulders. The work will include stream isolation and flow diversion and localized dewatering. The work also includes selective clearing and re-incorporation of woody debris into project elements. The project also includes establishing and restoring staging areas and temporary equipment access paths, traffic control, erosion and sediment control, invasive weed removal, seeding, revegetation and other work specified, all in accordance with these Contract Provisions and the Standard Specifications.
This project is funded, in part, by grants from the Washington State Department of Ecology through the Floodplains by Design program and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) via the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Federal funds are associated with the NFWF grant.
