JOB DESCRIPTION
The City of South Amboy is seeking to fill a vacant position for LABORER. This entry level position reports directly to the Department of Public Works.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED
-
Under supervision, performs varied manual and unskilled work
-
May drive certain City vehicles
-
Main area of focus will be trash collection including bulk pick up and or drop off
-
May move supplies, furniture and other equipment
-
Cutting grass, trimming hedges, shoveling snow, tree trimming, minor street repairs
-
Custodial work and office cleaning
-
Learns how to operate construction and/or maintenance equipment
-
Sweeps streets and sidewalks and may clean sewers
-
Must be at least 18 years of age
-
Other manual duties as assigned
LICENSE
-
New Jersey driver's license
-
May be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
-
Knowledge of the methods, materials and supplies used to perform varied types of manual and unskilled tasks
-
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for prolonged periods of time under varying temperature and climatic conditions
-
Ability to follow prescribed instructions
-
Ability to learn to use tools and equipment needed to perform routine, unskilled labor tasks
-
Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication

A positive attitude and commitment to working independently and as a team player in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent

Must satisfy employer paid physical, drug screen and criminal background check

NJ residency required by N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70)

Pursuant to Federal Law, proof of US Citizenship or immigration status will be required upon hire
