The work will require door specialists, electricians, wall finishers, and laborers. It is highly recommended that all offerors attend the scheduled site visit walk through to note wall types, existing conditions, required hardware, take rough measurements, etc., necessary for proper offers.

Construction will be done in accordance with VA specifications, Design guides, Infection Control guidelines and all applicable codes. VA Standards shall be retrieved from the Office of Construction and Facilities Management website (https://www.cfm.va.gov/til/index.asp). Construction will also be structured to require minimum interruption of space function during construction.

Notes:

  1. Demolition entails removal and disposal. Includes destructive actions of parts of block, plaster and/or gypsum walls. Walls to be refinished to match existing walls. Infection control measures must be taken as directed by VA (assume plastic barriers, air scrubber, sticky mat, and covered carts).

  2. For the frame and door labels, they shall be metal (i.e., not a sticker).

  3. Panic bars shall be UL-Listed fire exit devices.

  4. Contractor to plan on doing one door at a time. The VA may consider allowing more than one door worked on at a time. For it to be considered, the contractor must have a well-developed plan and adequate personnel to complete the work as quickly as possible. Life safety (stairwell door, path of egress) will be scrutinized. There is considerable distance between each door location.

SCHEDULE: Contractor to complete construction within 150 calendar days of the Notice to Proceed. This should allow sufficient time for submittals and material lead times, as well as actual construction. WORKING HOURS: Frame labeling/re-certifying can happen during normal working hours (e.g., 0730-1700). Demolition and construction work shall be performed after normal working hours (e.g,. 1700-0700). COR may allow some exceptions if VA Safety and Infection Control offices allow (e.g., painting, finishing).

SCHEDULED SITE VISIT: This SOW doesn t contain all the necessary information for contractors to prepare proper offers. Therefore, the schedule site visit walk-through is highly recommended. There interested offerors are to record the wall types; take rough measurements; note existing door operators, hardware, etc.; observe surroundings and visualize necessary infection control measures. A VA Locksmith will be part of the site visit to assist in answering questions onsite.

BADGING: The VA will provide contractors temporary badging. All badges shall be returned to the VA.

MEETINGS: Bi-weekly progress meetings will follow the Notice to Proceed. Weekly meetings will commence once a materials delivery date is established.
