Title of Project: SYR Pathology Laser Cassette Printer
Type of Contract Contemplated: One time purchase non-repetitive
SCOPE
A laser cassette printer technology produces high quality prints on the cassette to ensure specimens are processed consistently and efficiently. The laser printer will ensure there are not low-quality or unreadable printing which could compromise patient safety.

Principles of operation:
The laser printer employs a laser technology which activates a compound embedded in the cassette s plastic. The laser will provide easily readable print with specimen information. The printer should be make minimal noise to the user and mark cassettes at a high rate of speed. At least a 6-hopper carousel will eliminate time lost to swamping cassette colors or types of cassettes. The laser technology also eliminates costs and downtime associated with maintaining print heads, ink cartridges, ribbon, and UV fixing lights.

The laser printer will reduce errors made in the anatomic pathology laboratory by eliminating the need for hand-written labeling on cassettes, which have led to patient quality issues in the past. The laser printer will also streamline processing of patient specimens, allowing for more efficient workflow for the technologists.
Compatibility with Existing Equipment:
The anatomic pathology lab currently uses cassettes that are able to be used in the laser printer.
Applicable DICOM compliance, Directives or IT Policies:
Ensure that contractors, third party partners, and servicers implement the VA security and privacy requirements, as defined in the contract. These requirements can also be added to the contract Statement of Work (SOW). The requirements apply to applicable contracts in which VA sensitive information is stored, generated, transmitted, or exchanged by VA, a contractor, subcontractor or a third-party, or on behalf of any of these entities regardless of format or whether it resides on a VA system or contractor or subcontractor s electronic information system(s) operating for or on the VA s behalf.
