This project consists of the removal and replacement of up to 160 feet of 24-inch sewer main located on the east side of Highway 95 North of Merrill Ave and South of Rio Rancho Blvd. The existing sewer main was constructed of 24-inch HDPE and shall be replaced with 24-inch SDR35 PVC.
This section of sewer main has been crushed due to infiltration of dirt and rock between the 36-inch ADS sleeve and the 24-inch HDPE. An emergency replacement project was initiated in December 2023 which replaced approximately 103 feet of pipe. A temporary connection was made using a concrete encasement to prevent any sewage loss, and to prevent any further damage to the existing main. This concrete encasement is located approximately 103 feet south of MH-15921 and must be removed to make connection to the existing SDR35 PVC. The pipe replacement for this project will continue from this point to the south, up to 160 feet in length. The end point of this replacement will be determined by the Bullhead City Utilities Department Project Manager.
Before starting the replacement of this pipeline, bypass pumping must be installed per the City’s bypass pumping requirements and per the bypass pumping plan provided by the contractor.
A water main bypass must be installed per plan to reduce the possibility of any water outage during this project. All temporary pipes and fittings must be disinfected during installation per ANSI/AWWA Standard C651-14. A sample port must be installed on the bypass line and a BAC-t test will be collected by the Bullhead City Water Quality Specialist. This Bac-t test must “pass” prior to opening the bypass.
The City of Bullhead City will coordinate with Mohave Electric Cooperative (MEC) to deenergize and remove the power lines within this trench-line prior to the start of excavation. The selected contractor will be responsible for preserving this conduit in place; or remove and replace the conduit as needed. The conduit shall be inspected and approved by a MEC inspector prior to backfill.
Due to the volume of sewage carried by the nearby sewage lift station and the lift station running on backup power the selected contractor must adhere to a strict schedule allowing no delays throughout the duration of this project.
