Overview

Summary

The Bridgeton Public School District is seeking proposals from qualified individuals or organizations to provide Writing Coach services to support the professional development of teachers and improve student writing outcomes across the district in grades 6-8. The selected provider will work collaboratively with the supervisor and educators to enhance writing instruction across grade levels.

Background

Bridgeton Public Schools is a comprehensive public school district located in Cumberland County, New Jersey, serving approximately 6,300 students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade across eight schools. With a dedicated faculty of over 500 full-time equivalent educators, the district is committed to fostering academic excellence and equity for all learners.

Classified in District Factor Group “A,” Bridgeton represents the lowest socioeconomic tier in the state, with 100% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. The district’s student population is richly diverse, with over 30% identified as Multilingual Learners and approximately 15% receiving Special Education services.

This RFP focuses on supporting instruction in grades 6–8, where novel-based learning forms the foundation of the English Language Arts curriculum. Despite ongoing efforts, student performance on the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) for Language Arts Literacy has remained relatively flat over the past three years. Writing, in particular, has emerged as a critical area for targeted instructional improvement.
