Commercial Zero-Turn Mower

The City of Independence, Kansas, is accepting sealed bids for the purchase of one (1) commercial zero-turn mower for use by the Parks and Public Works Departments.

Sealed bids will be received at the office of the City Clerk, 120 N. 6th, Independence, Kansas, until 2pm on April 2, 2026, at which time bids will be publicly opened and read aloud.

No bid bond is required.

The City reserves the right to reject any or all bids, waive informalities, and accept the bid deemed to be in the best interest of the City.

1. INTENT

The City of Independence seeks to purchase one (1) commercial-grade zero-turn mower meeting or exceeding the specifications listed herein.

The preferred model is:

Hustler Super Z HyperDrive 72" Commercial Zero-Turn Mower
with Kawasaki FX1000 EFI (38.5 HP) Engine
and Turf Tweels

Hustler is the preferred brand due to local availability of parts and authorized service support.

Equivalent models will be considered provided they meet or exceed all specifications and performance requirements.

2. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

• New, current production model

• Commercial-grade construction

• Designed for municipal and heavy-duty landscape operations

• Fully assembled and ready for operation upon delivery

Used, demo, or refurbished units will not be accepted.

3. MINIMUM TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

3.1 ENGINE

• Kawasaki FX1000 EFI engine (or approved equivalent)

• Minimum 38.5 horsepower

• Electronic fuel injection

• Heavy-duty commercial air filtration system

3.2 CUTTING DECK

• 72-inch cutting width

• Fabricated welded steel deck

• Minimum 7-gauge deck construction

• Adjustable cutting height system

• Heavy-duty spindle assemblies

3.3 DRIVE SYSTEM

• Commercial-grade Hydro-Gear HyperDrive or equivalent

• Designed for continuous commercial duty

• Minimum ground speed of approximately 14 mph

3.4 TIRES

• Michelin Tweels or approved equivalent airless turf tires

• Front and rear turf-safe configuration

3.5 FRAME

• Fully welded steel frame

• Commercial-duty construction

3.6 OPERATOR FEATURES

• High-back suspension seat

• ROPS (Roll Over Protection System)

• Hour meter

• Easy-access maintenance points

3.7 WARRANTY

• Minimum manufacturer’s commercial warranty

• Provide full warranty documentation with bid

4. DELIVERY

Delivery shall be FOB Destination to:

Delivery shall occur within 20 calendar days after receipt of Purchase Order.

6. AWARD

Award will be made to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder meeting specifications and serving the best interest of the City.

The City reserves the right to:

• Reject any or all bids

• Waive minor irregularities

• Accept an equivalent model meeting performance requirements
