In July 2024, enhancements to the early years assessments framework were announced, which included the addition of a literacy and numeracy screening requirement for all students in grades 4 and 5 using government-provided or government-approved screening assessments beginning in the 2026/27 school year. With the numeracy screening assessments for grades 4 and 5, Alberta teachers and school and system leaders will be able to meet the screening requirement. The Province requires a Contractor to provide (through build or adaptation of an existing product owned by the Contractor) a research-based Foundational Numeracy Screening Assessment for Grades 4 and 5 to screen for numeracy difficulties.
