Overview
Summary

The City is seeking proposals from qualified organizations to implement innovative internship models that connect youth, between the ages of 16 to 24, to real civic challenges while building leadership, financial awareness, and a sense of purpose. Selected organization must coordinate with the Pinellas County Schools Office of Strategic Partnerships and/or Career, Technical and Adult Education to ensure the program aligns with existing efforts and fills unique gaps.

Background

The City of St. Petersburg is committed to cultivating youth leadership, civic understanding, and community wellbeing through high-impact, experience-based learning. Consistent with Mayor Welch’s Pillars for Progress and Principles for Responsible and Accountable Government, the CIVICx Internships initiative connects students to hands-on civic learning that fosters real-world skills and personal growth while engaging youth as change agents within their communities.

CIVICx Internships are designed to provide paid, experiential learning opportunities for young people between the ages of 16 to 24 in a variety of civic fields. Participants will gain experience in community organizing, public service, nonprofit operations, civic research, social innovation, and philanthropy. Through exposure to multiple dimensions of community change—from grassroots leadership to foundation-based funding—students will develop the knowledge, habits, and mindset necessary to make informed decisions and drive sustainable impact.
