Overview
Beaufort County is seeking qualified design professionals to assist in the development and implementation of an updated master plan and Phase 1 improvements for the MC Riley Sports Complex. The existing County scope establishes a planned program of three natural-grass lighted ball fields, a small maintenance building, a centralized building with restrooms, concession stand, meeting room and office, walkways, six pickleball courts, additional parking and seating areas.
MC Riley Park—also known as the Michael C. Riley Sports Complex—is a 12.5‑acre community recreation facility located at 185 Goethe Road in Bluffton, SC, managed by Beaufort County Parks & Recreation. Named in honor of Michael C. Riley (1873–1966), a pioneering African‑American educator, civic leader, and the first Black trustee of Beaufort County School District #2, the park sits adjacent to the historic site of the Michael C. Riley Schools, which served Bluffton’s African‑American community from the early 20th century through desegregation in 1970. Current amenities include three baseball fields, a covered outdoor basketball court, two batting cages, restrooms, and multi-use trails that accommodate walkers, runners, and informal sports. Geographically, the park lies in southern Beaufort County, nearby notable landmarks such as Saint Joseph’s Park and Bluffton Branch Library, approximately seven miles from Hilton Head Island.
