GENERAL PROVISIONS & INSTRUCTIONS

All work shall be performed in accordance with the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT)
2020 Standard Specifications for Construction or as modified by these General Provisions & Instructions.
Special Requirements
In accordance with section 107.10 of the MDOT 2020 Standard Specifications for Construction, the
Contractor shall submit all necessary copies of insurance certificates to the Jackson County Department of
Transportation (JCDOT) prior to starting work.
A preconstruction meeting will be held to finalize a progress schedule and to determine the execution and
administration of the contract. Work on the project shall not begin prior to July 6 or a date agreed upon by
the Project Manager. The completion date for all work shall be October 23, 2026. Failure of the Contractor
to complete the work within the contract time will result in an assessment of liquidated damages in
accordance with Section 108.10 of the MDOT 2020 Standard Specifications for Construction. Liquidated
damages will be deducted from contractor payments.
JCDOT will work in close coordination with utility service providers who may perform scheduled
maintenance work prior to the start of construction activities on various roads.
Payment
The contractor shall submit invoices for completed contract items to JCDOT (Jim Cole) on a monthly basis.
The invoice will be processed and payment for approved contract items will be made within thirty (30)
calendar days or less of receiving the invoice.
The Contractor shall submit a statement to JCDOT certifying that all Subcontractors and Suppliers that
furnished any labor, equipment, and materials for the project have been paid before the final payment on
the contract is made.

Project Scope
The work will consist of HMA Base Crushing and Shaping, driveway removals, HMA resurfacing, and slope
restoration on Cambria Drive in Spring Arbor, Jackson County, Michigan as specified in this proposal, the
attached map, and table below.

HMA Base Crushing and Shaping limits will be marked out by the Engineer and performed in accordance
with Section 305 of the MDOT 2020 Standard Specifications for Construction. The Engineer may mark out
locations where subgrade undercutting is required and will specify the dimensions and depth of the
undercut; this will be paid for as Subgrade Undercutting, Type II. Dust control is included in the HMA Base
Crushing and Shaping pay item.
For Subgrade Undercutting, Type II, the Engineer will specify the location and depth of the subgrade
undercut in accordance with Section 205.03 of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) 2020
Standard Specifications for Construction. Pavement removal shall be paid for as HMA Surface, Rem.
Bond coat shall be included in each HMA pay item. Bond coat shall be placed at a rate of 0.05 – 0.15
gallons per square yard. HMA placement at all driveway approaches and intersection approaches will be
included in HMA pay items.
Spot curb and gutter repair may be marked by the Engineer. The replacement curb shall match to the
existing and shall follow the latest edition of the MDOT Standard Plan R-30-G.
For Curb and Gutter, Conc, Det F4, the Engineer will specify the location and depth of the base material in
accordance with Section 602.03.B of the MDOT 2020 Standard Specifications for Construction.
Add curb and gutter for cul-de-sac F4 183 ft (will include Earth Excavation and Aggregate Base).
The item Slope Restoration, Modified shall be used for topsoil restoration along the edges of pavement.
The work shall be performed in accordance with the Slope Restoration, Modified special provision contained
within this proposal.
