Description

The objective of this requirement is for a study to design lithium-ion battery packs for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles and to estimate the cost of assembling the packs from purchased cells. The data and analysis will be used to model the cell-to-pack and cell-to-system costs for NMC811-Graphite and LFP-Graphite batteries in a plant, with a capacity of 25,000 vehicles per year. Designs and estimates will be provided for three separate battery systems with required energies of 100, 200, and 500 kWh. This corresponds to six total designs and estimates - i.e., two chemistries for all three kWh requirements. This work is expected to provide Argonne with the design of cells, modules, and packs that are assembled in lithium-ion battery systems for medium- and heavy-duty (MHD) vehicles and the resulting cell-to-pack and pack-to-system cost. The battery systems are designed for vehicles in the USA and are manufactured in the USA.
