The Isle of Wight County Utilities Services Department is seeking temporary assistance to perform construction inspections for new utility infrastructure, primarily associated with new residential developments, as well as various individual projects, including commercial developments and other utility construction activities.
This position currently functions as part of the construction oversight performed by the Isle of Wight County Public Works Department but will transition to the Utilities Services Department following the completion of this temporary contracted service period.
The inspector will be responsible for documenting inspections, actions taken, decisions, and communications with Isle of Wight County staff, contractors, developers, engineers, and other stakeholders. The County intends to provide the selected contractor with access to applicable County information systems necessary to perform these administrative and documentation functions.

The preferred candidate will possess a minimum of four (4) years of field experience in utility construction inspection and utility construction standards. Experience within the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission service area is strongly preferred, as regional utility standards closely align with Isle of Wight County's Design and Construction Standards.
The selected individual must be able to routinely interact with construction contractor teams members, supervisors, Isle of Wight County Public Works and Utilities staff, regulatory agency staff, and members of the public.

Isle of Wight County is actively recruiting to fill the permanent full-time position that this temporary contract is intended to support. The County anticipates requiring these services for up to three (3) months.
Normal construction hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
