Project Description: The Lyons Borough Municipal Authority (LBMA) is soliciting bids for the excavation and hauling of the dewatered municipal wastewater sludge from all three of the Reed Drying Beds at the LBMA Wastewater Treatment Plant located at 206 Hunter Street, Lyons Borough, Berks County, PA 19530. The work is to be started when the sludge has thawed and is removable but as early as possible prior to wet Spring weather. The work is to be completed within 30 days.
The existing Reed Beds are three contiguous beds that each measure 30’ x 40’ and the stored sludge is approximately 3’- 6” deep in all three beds. The beds are constructed of concrete walls that are 10” thick. The excavation must be performed from outside the beds using a long reach backhoe. No mechanical equipment will be allowed to enter the reed beds. The contractor will leave 2” to 3“of existing sludge in the beds so as not to disturb the sand and gravel layers below. There is access all around the beds but some of it is grass lawn and any damage done to the lawn must be repaired by the contractor by regrading and seeding. Any restoration work is included in the contract.
The excavated material is to be hauled to the Pioneer Crossing Landfill located in Birdsboro, PA, under the current approval that was already obtained by LBMA. The hauling costs are to be included in the bid. The LBMA will pay the landfill disposal costs directly to the landfill. Daily landfill weigh slips are to be submitted to the LBMA representative at the WWTP.
The Excavation and Hauling costs are to be bid as lump sum.
