Project Title: Stokes County Animal Shelter
Description: The project located at 1075 Dodgetown Road, Walnut Cove, NC 27052 includes the renovation of approximately 3,860 SF after the proposed partial demolition of the existing building and a new building addition of approximately 3,442 SF. The new addition also includes approximately 800 SF of outside kennels. The building type is Type VB. The existing building includes masonry bearing walls and metal bow truss structure and renovations but are not limited to new partitions, new windows and doors, new standing seam metal roofing and interior demolition. Spaces include the new entry, administrative/office areas, and the cat kennel area. The new building addition shall be masonry bearing walls with TJI roof structure and single- ply TPO roofing. Spaces include but not limited to new dog kennels, delivery/ service area, animal intake areas, laundry, food preparation and a cold storage unit . The entire facility will have new and updated plumbing mechanical and electrical systems and a new generator (add alternate). The site will include limited grading, new parking and entry drive, service drive, perimeter fencing and gates and a 16’- 0” controlled sliding gate.

ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS
Sealed bids will be received by the Stokes County until 2:00 PM on January 14, 2026, at the Stokes County Governmental
Center, 1014 Main Street, Danbury, NC 27016 in the Board of Commissioners Chambers and immediately thereafter
publicly opened and read aloud, to furnish all materials and labor for the Stokes County Animal Shelter Project. Upon
arrival, please check-in at the front information desk for room location, and sign-in. Please allow sufficient time for this, as
late bids will not be accepted.
Please email Peter H. Freeman, AIA at freeman@freemankennett.com to request electronic PDF copies of the bid
documents. Freeman Kennett Architects will email an electronic copy within 48 hours of the request. Questions regarding
the bid package should be directed in writing to Peter H. Freeman, AIA via email. A brief description of work in the project
as follows:

A Pre-Bid site visit shallbe conducted on December 17, 2025 – at the Stokes County Animal Shelter project site- 1075
Dodgetown Road, Walnut Cove, NC 27052 at 10:00 AM.
Bidders must be properly licensed for the work in accordance with Section 87 of the North Carolina General Statutes. A 5% Bid
Bond and 100% Performance and Labor and Material Payment Bonds are required for this project. No bid may be
withdrawn after the scheduled closing time for the receipt of bids for a period of 60 days.
E-Verify Requirements: This project requires the awarded vendor to comply with the requirements of E-Verify. (U.S. law
requiring companies to employ only individuals who may legally work in the United States – either U.S. citizens, or foreign
citizens who have the necessary authorization.)
Minority businesses are encouraged to submit bids for this project. The appropriate forms from the section entitled
“Participation by Women and Minority Owned Businesses” must be submitted with each bid to show good faith efforts to obtain
Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprise participation.
Stokes County awards public contracts without regard to race, religion, color, creed, national origin, sex, age or handicapped
condition as defined by North Carolina General Statutes, Section 168A-3. The Board of Commissioners reserves the right to
reject any or all bids presented and to waive any informalities and irregularities.
