Title: NOTICE OF INTENT TO DESIGNATE SINGLE SOURCE FOR COMCAST
Addenda: 0
Release Date: 9/29/2025
Due Date: 10/20/2025
Description of Intended Products or Services Provided:
Cable TV Services - Basic hardwired cable television service and equipment for access to live broadcasts of local government meetings, local and national news, and weather channels.
This purchase enables leadership and key personnel to view Board of County Commissioners meetings, and other public sessions in real time. It also provides continuous access to national and local news outlets, supporting situational awareness of events that may impact residents and operations.
During severe weather events, such as hurricanes, reliable access to multiple weather and emergency channels is critical for preparedness and response. These broadcasts provide real-time updates that support informed decision making and protection of County facilities, infrastructure, and the public.
Comcast is the sole provider of cable (hardwired) television services in much of Collier County.
The purchase ensures operational continuity, emergency readiness, and direct access to critical information necessary for effective County governance.
Unlike internet based streaming or satellite TV, cable (hardwired) service remains stable during peak demand, emergencies, and severe weather events. Alternative methods such as using multiple streaming platforms, would increase costs, and create administrative inefficiencies. Comcast is therefore the only practical and operationally sound choice, meeting all three single source criteria.
While other providers may operate within limited areas of the County, none offer the infrastructure or coverage necessary to support the multiple County facilities that depend on this service. Comcast’s existing network and long-standing service history uniquely position it to deliver consistent, reliable access to local government meetings, local and national news, and real-time weather channels. Alternative delivery methods would require multiple subscriptions and added administrative oversight, while being less reliable during emergencies and severe weather conditions. For these reasons, continued use of Comcast is the only practical and operationally sound choice to meet County-wide needs.
