Pursuant to the State Purchasing Act (Official Code of Georgia Annotated ยงยง50-5-50 et seq.), this electronic Request for Proposals (eRFP) is being issued to establish a contract with a qualified and regulated supplier who will provide Biohazardous Waste Collection and Disposal for the Department of Public Health's Georgia Public Health Laboratory (hereinafter, the State Entity or DPH) as further described in this eRFP.
The mission of the State Entity's Georgia Public Health Laboratory (GPHL) Program is to improve the health status of Georgians by providing accurate, timely and confidential clinical and non-clinical laboratory testing in support of State Entity programs, activities and initiatives as well as performing tests for Emergency Preparedness.
To accomplish the role of providing appropriate support for continually evolving public health programs, the State Entity's Laboratory provides screening, diagnostic and reference laboratory services to citizens of the State through county health departments, public health clinics, physicians, other clinical laboratories, hospitals, and state agencies. Facility staff also perform sample testing for emergency preparedness against biological and chemical threats, with various units focusing on specific fields like molecular biology, bacteriology, microbial immunology, parasitology, and virology - major players in public health and safety.
Major focus areas for testing at the State Entity's laboratories are: 1. Chemistry (Newborn Screening Unit, Lead Screening and Fluoride Testing), 2. Emergency Preparedness (Biological/Chemical Threat and Molecular Biology Units) and 3. Microbiology (Bacteriology, Microbial Immunology, Mycobacteriology, Parasitology and Virology Units).
