St. John's Church Retaining Wall Repairs Phase 1 24th Street

The City of Richmond is accepting bids for general contracting services for the St. John's Church Retaining Wall Repairs Phase 1 24th Street project which includes, but may not be limited to, repairs of the retaining wall along the 24th street section of the St. John’s Church Cemetery.

St. John's Church Cemetary is in Richmond's oldest neighborhood, Church Hill, located at 24th and Broad Street. The cemetery surrounds St. John’s Church and was the site of Patrick Henry's rousing, "Give me liberty or give me death!" speech. The church and the cemetery are in the Church Hill Old and Historic District. The City of Richmond owns the Broad Street side of the cemetery. The cemetery is the resting place of Elizabeth Arnold Poe, the mother of the famous poet, Edgar Allan Poe and George Wythe, one of the signers of our nation's Declaration of Independence.
