The Landsat Next mission architecture was originally envisioned to launch three identical observatories on a single launch vehicle. NASA is currently assessing alternative mission architectures to support more affordable ways to maintain the continuity of Landsat imagery per the language in the FY26 President’s Budget Request (PBR). The content of this posting reflects the original triplet mission architecture. These are DRAFT documents and are subject to change once a new mission architecture is announced by the agency. Additionally, other changes may occur as the project continues to mature the documentation.
The Landsat Next project has made significant progress in updating the governing spacecraft procurement documents based on the inputs received during the Industry Week event in March of 2025. Specifically, the spacecraft Statement of Work (SOW), Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) / Date Items Deliverable (DID), Mission Assurance Requirements (MAR), and the Spacecraft Environmental Requirements Document (SCERD) have all seen notable updates. The updated draft documents are now available through this modified announcement.
As a follow on to the Industry Week event, spacecraft vendors are welcome to provide additional inputs, comments, and questions regarding these updated documents, to the CO (Tumbapura, Pavi - pavithra.s.tumbapura@nasa.gov) and the COR (Bacon, Charles E. - charles.e.bacon@nasa.gov).
