Description

SYNOPSIS: This Sources Sought Announcement is to assist the US Army DEVCOM Soldier Center to identify potential sources that possess the technical capability and qualifications in meeting the Government’s minimum needs for two types of single edge double bevel design blades for use in cutting apparatus (Sauer {Neumag} NMC 150 [NMC-H Series]) to provide staple sized synthetic fiber for production materials in support of Combat Capabilities Development Command –Solider Center (CCDC-SC) Fiber Project Branch (FPB).





The Government requests that responses be submitted electronically to mary.k.prebensen.civ@army.mil and christine.p.poulack.civ@army.mil by 28 FEB 2025 by 5pm EST.





Background: The Government (DEVCOM Soldier Center) Distinctive Materials Solutions Branch (DMSB) needs two types of single edge blades for use in cutting apparatus (Sauer {Neumag} NMC 150 [NMC-H Series]) to provide staple sized synthetic fiber for production materials to support customer requirement for their end product.





Description: The contractor WILL BE expected to fabricate single edge, double bevel design blades





General Specifications for first set single edge blades:




  • L: 0.630"

  • W: 0.315"

  • Thickness: 0.019"

  • Tolerance: 0.005"

  • Single Edge, Double Bevel (20 deg/40 deg)

  • Weight approx... 0.8-1.2 grams

  • Polished all edges and surfaces to a 2 RMS finish





General Specifications for second set single edge blades:




  • L: 48.0mm

  • W: 8.0mm

  • Thickness: 0.9mm

  • Single Edge, Double Bevel (33 deg/17 deg)

  • Polished all edges and surfaces to a 2 RMS finish





Specific Specifications:




  • Tungsten Carbide (WC): 85-94% - Currently 92%

  • Cobalt (Co): 6-15% - currently 12% (Better than a Grade C-2)

  • Wear resistance: Extra High Hardness (HRA): 92-95 -Currently 92

  • Ultra-Fine Grain Size (WC): 0.6-0.8

  • Density (g/cm3): 14-15 - Currently 14







Deliverables: First set of blades listed in Requirement a. above: Three shipments containing 1,000 blades/shipment or single shipment of 3,000 blades within 6-8 weeks after receipt of order. Second set of blades listed in Requirement b. above: Four shipments containing 1,000 blades/shipment or single shipment of 4,000 blades within 6-8 weeks after receipt of order.





Delivery Date: The Government anticipates 20 weeks/months lead time for this item.

This Sources Sought Announcement is issued solely for information and planning purposes and to identify interested sources. THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION. No contract will be awarded from this announcement. This Sources Sought does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP) or a promise to issue an RFP in the future. It is subject to change and is not binding on the Government. Further, unsolicited proposals will not be accepted. Funding is not available at this time. The United States Army has not made a commitment to procure any of the items/services discussed, and release of this Sources Sought Announcement should not be construed as such a commitment or as authorization to incur cost for which reimbursement would be required or sought. Response to this Sources Sought Announcement is voluntary and no reimbursement will be made for any costs associated with providing information in response to this and any follow-on information requests. All submissions become Government property and will not be returned.





Not responding to this Sources Sought Announcement does not preclude participation in any future RFP if any is issued. If a solicitation is released, it will be synopsized in the SAM.gov website. It is the responsibility of the potential responders to monitor this site for additional information pertaining to this subject.

The U.S. Government will not pay for any information or administrative cost incurred in response to this Notice. All costs associated with responding to this Notice will be solely at the expense of the interested party.





Please provide business size (indicate your socioeconomic status), applicable NAICS code, and CAGE code. If you hold a GSA Federal Supply Schedule contract, please identify your contract number.
