RFI QUESTION AND ANSWERS

Q1. What is the type of fill to be used?

A1. Per SOW contractor is to provide a Report to also include the feasibility of infilling the underground structure with gravel, flowable fill or an alternative type of fill to prevent structure collapse. The VA has no preference on fill type. Type of fill must prevent underground structure from collapsing.

Q2. Is the intent to remove the visible Check Valve protruding through the ground?

A2. Removal of check valve is not included in scope of work.

Q3. Would it be acceptable to fill the vault with sand?

A3. Contractor may provide sand as a potential fill option in their findings report.

Q4. There is an abutting stream to this location. Would there be permitting issued for this to work to be completed near it and if so, who would be handling that.

A4. Contractor will be held to Specification 01 57 19 Temporary Environmental Controls. Required permits would need to be submitted by the subcontractor with their Environmental Protection Plan.

Q5. Without knowing the size of the vault, how are we supposed to provide a cost for filling it? Can an approximate amount be provided for bidding purposes until a further investigation is completed?

A5. VA rough measurements estimate the structure to be 40,000 cubic feet.

Q6. Has the VA done any investigation into the vault (scoping it with a camera, etc). Please provide any information available.
A6. VA has not done any investigation into the vault.

Q7. Will pricing the infill of the vault be a contract modification?

A7. Please provide unit pricing for flowable fill, gravel and any other proposed alternative fill.

Q8. Are the stacks to be removed once the vault is filled?

A8. Stacks may be removed or infilled as well.

Q9. Is the site to be left undisturbed as preexisting or is there site restoration involved?
