Overview
Summary

The City of Palo Alto invites bids for a comprehensive sidewalk, curb, and gutter repair project to enhance pedestrian safety and overall infrastructure quality across the City of Palo Alto's residential neighborhoods. While focusing primarily on two districts, this initiative will address critical repairs and improvements at numerous locations throughout the City. The scope of work encompasses a wide range of essential upgrades including the repair and replacement of existing sidewalks, curb ramps, and installation of valley gutters. A significant component of this project involves the modernization of curb ramps to ensure full compliance with current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, thereby improving access for all residents.

This project is important for maintaining Palo Alto's high standards of livability and public infrastructure. Beyond addressing immediate repair needs, the initiative aims to mitigate trip hazards, improve flow for stormwater management, and enhance the aesthetic appeal of our residential neighborhoods. Contractors will be responsible to executing high-quality work with minimal disruption to residents and ensuring all improvements integrate seamlessly with existing conditions.

We are seeking qualified vendors with experience in similar municipal infrastructure projects. We encourage all interested and capable contractors to submit a competitive proposal.

The Engineer's Estimate for this Project is $1.5 million.

Background

The City of Palo Alto is committed to providing a safe and high quality environment for its residents and visitors. A critical component of this commitment is the ongoing maintenance and improvement of our pedestrian infrastructure. This current FY2026 Sidewalk, Curb & Gutter Project continues the City's long-standing dedication to enhancing public spaces, building upon previous successful initiatives that have addressed similar infrastructure needs across Palo Alto.

This project involves the challenges of working efficiently within active residential neighborhoods, minimizing disruption to daily life or other projects. For prospective vendors, highly commendable work not only includes delivering high quality craftsmanship, but also demonstrating exceptional communication skills, proactive problem solving, and a commitment to maintaining a positive relationship with residents throughout the construction process. A vendor that can expertly adapt to unforeseen conditions and deliver a superior product while exceeding community expectations will be considered an ideal partner for this project.
