Union Locust Stand-By Generator Project

Bids will be received for a single prime contract for the relocation and installation of an existing 100-kW natural gas generator, concrete support pad and all associated electrical equipment/wiring, gas piping and exhaust ventilation installation.

The Santa Cruz Water Department (Department) shares an office building, referred to as the Union/Locust Building, with the Santa Cruz Public Libraries that is divided into two addresses 212 Locust Street (Water) and 117 Union Street (Library). The Union/Locust Building is not equipped with a backup source of power and is vulnerable to prolonged power outages, most recently during the 2023 winter storms. These outages interrupt the operations of both Library and Water Department staff, such as the Santa Cruz Municipal Utilities section of the Water Department, who are unable to assist customers and collect water, sewer, and wastewater revenues when there is a power outage. This project will provide a backup power supply to ensure business continuity for Library and Water Department functions during power outages at the Union/Locust Building.
