RFI's & Responses
1.) At fire station # 10 Based on scaling the print, we are assuming the building is approximately 80' x
80'. That said, the bearing locations are not indicated. Clearing a span of that size, especially with a
hip roof requiring multiple girders would present design challenges. We would likely need to add
additional bearing points, but we would need guidance on where those could be located.
Response: The clear span will need to be field verified by the GC/Truss Manufacturer. The
clear dimension from interior of bearing is approximately 80'. We would prefer to not
utilize interior bearing points but if required, bearing is acceptable at interior points that
match the existing interior bearing points currently observed in the attic space.
2.) At fire station # 10 Additionally, an 80' truss creates delivery and handling concerns. Are they
anticipating a single-piece truss, or would splitting it into two be acceptable?
Response: Splitting the truss into two pieces may create bearing issues within the interior
of the building. We would prefer to not utilize interior bearing points but if required due to
transport or handling hardship, bearing is acceptable at interior points that match the
existing interior bearing points currently observed in the attic space.
3.) At fire station # 10 Another consideration is the combination of a hip roof, low heel height, and
shallow pitch at that span. Achieving that configuration would be difficult due to the material depth
required. Increasing the heel height, the pitch, or both would likely provide a more practical solution.
Response: An increase of heel height from 8" to 12" as well as an increase in pitch from
2/12 to 4/12 are acceptable modifications.

4.) Is there a specific roof hatch that will be required for the attic access in both fire departments?
Response: The roof hatch shall be a Bilco, Nystrom or Equal, Thermally Broken, Insulated
Roof Hatch. Roof Hatch size shall match the existing unit scheduled to be removed.
5.) I have been told by the Manufacturer that the specified pavers Granite Tek have been discontinued.
What would be a suitable alternate for these?
Response: Maintaining the same general specification for pedestal system and
manufacturer (TileTech) as included in the bid documents. The Porcelain Paver Series
(owner/arch selection from full line) is an acceptable alternate as well as the Cool Roof
Series (owner/arch selection from full line).
6.) Scaling the plans as recommended, we would have an 80 ft clear span - our designer tried and it is
failing even at 5-ply @ 16" o.c. Also, a 2/12 pitch is too shallow for this span. Can you check if the
client if there are interior bearings or if the span is actually shorter? If it's a 80 ft clear span, they
might need steel trusses.
Response: The clear span will need to be field verified by the GC/Truss Manufacturer. The
clear dimension from interior of bearing is approximately 80'. An increase of heel height
from 8" to 12" as well as an increase in pitch from 2/12 to 4/12 are acceptable
modifications. We would prefer to not utilize interior bearing points but if required bearing
is acceptable at interior points that match the existing interior bearing points currently
observed in the attic space.
